The new American Eagle and American Flyer lifts at Copper Mountain have transformed access to the slopes from the attractive, purpose-built base village.
From gentle greens to steep glades, the 2,490 acres of terrain has something for everyone. Add to this inbounds cat skiing on Tucker Mountain, as well as arguably one of the world’s best park setups, and it is clear why Copper is a popular destination – for local and foreign visitors alike.
Its location just off the I-70 highway makes Copper one of the most accessible resorts for Brits visiting the States. It is also very easy to combine a stay here with visits to some of Summit County’s other top resorts – Keystone, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin are all nearby.

On the Slopes
21% of the 2490 acres of terrain is marked green for beginners and Copper is arguably one of the better places to learn in Colorado. Gentle slopes underneath the Kokomo Express are a great place to start and then good progression on to longer runs served by the American Flyer and Timberline chairs is available. Intermediates will enjoy the long blues off the Super Bee lift, but note that some of the main routes off the American Eagle lift can get busy at weekends.
Advanced skiers and riders will want to head straight up to the top of the mountain using the new Three Bears chairlift that runs up to the summit of Tucker Mountain at 3760m. Alternatively there is some great steep terrain served off the back of Union Peak by the Blackjack and Mountain Chief chair, as well as the longer runs in Spaulding Bowl. Just watch out if you’re taking a short hike – the altitude can really have an effect here.
In the Resort
There are three main bases to choose from, but we’d recommend staying if Centre Village if you get the chance. Here you’ll find the best choice of restaurants, bars for après ski and the liveliest atmosphere. It is also the best place to start your day on the hill from – both the American Flyer and American Eagle lifts run from the edge of town here. .
Off the hill there is more to do in Copper than at many US resorts, with ice skating, snowshoeing and a 25 mile network of cross country trails to explore.
Getting to Copper Mountain
Access from Denver is easy, with a quick transfer of just under two hours (I-70 traffic and conditions dependent) from the airport.

The sad demise of Left Coast skiing continues this week, with more resorts shuttering with each passing day in the wake of what is now officially a record-low snowpack in Utah. Temperatures remain mild throughout this forecast period across the Rockies, PNW, and Tetons, with a few bursts of rain along the way.
Things may turn colder into the weekend with a few flurries of snow, but whether there is a snowpack left for this to boost is anyone’s guess.
Out on the Ice Coast, things start this period cold and snowy, but rapidly turn mild as the freezing line leaps over tall buildings in a single bound. Things will fluctuate slightly, plus a flurry of rain in to start the weekend to keep things interesting.
