Freeriders ski touring through deep snow with mountain views
What is touring?

Leave the lifts behind, and find snow nobody else has touched

Climb on skins, ski back down through untouched snow, away from lifts and marked pistes entirely. It's the same Freshtracks format as everything else we run: matched by ski profile. The only difference is how you get to the snow. With options in remote corners of the Alps to our Freshtracks favourite resorts of Flaine and Chamonix, it’s all there for the taking.

From your very first day on skins to multi-day hut to hut tours, there's a natural next step whatever stage you're at.

Why members tour

Snow no lift can reach

The real reasons members make the move from off piste to touring.

Ski tourer climbing over a mountain ridge

You're never out there alone

Touring takes place away from marked pistes, deep into terrain a lift will never reach, so every Freshtracks touring holiday is expertly led throughout, alongside a small group of like-minded members.

Group of Ski Club members together, smiling

A community, not just a course

Around 85% of members on Ski Club holidays travel solo, so you'll find yourself among people who came for exactly the same reason. Most stay in touch long after the trip ends.

In members' words

What Touring weeks are like

Superb location with tremendous variety of easy to access off piste and an excellent hotel

Rick, Pitztal Day Tours

The ski holiday was fantastic. The chalet staff were excellent - both highly skilled chefs and genuinely hospitable and everything felt very well organized. The guides were also terrific: professional, friendly, and a pleasure to spend time with.

Lyon, Chamonix Backcountry Exploration

A great experience with excellent accommodation.

Touring FAQs

Do I need a guide for my first ski tour?

Yes, and it's strongly recommended. Ski touring takes place away from marked pistes, in natural mountain terrain where conditions can change quickly.

What should I book as a beginner?

Start with an introductory touring course. These trips are designed specifically for first-timers and focus on learning rather than covering long distances, introducing equipment, uphill technique and avalanche safety basics.

How fit do I need to be?

It depends on the tour. Our beginner and day-tour holidays need a reasonable level of fitness, comfortable walking uphill for longer periods is the main thing. Multi-day hut-to-hut touring is more demanding, with consecutive days of sustained uphill effort, so check the specific holiday for what it asks of you.

Will my insurance cover ski touring?

Not all winter sports policies automatically cover ski touring, so check before you travel, including cover outside resort boundaries and mountain rescue.

Do I need my own touring skis and boots?

For most holidays it's a no, renting is a great option if you're trying touring for the first time. For more remote expeditions and higher level tours it's recommended to bring your own kit, check the individual trip page for more details.

What equipment do I need?

A suitably sized touring backpack, transceiver, shovel and probe. Speak to our office staff for more information, as the amount of equipment needed will vary by trip.

Off-piste, Chalets, Takeover and 150+ other holidays across 65 resorts.
