Hochfügen Ski Resort
The high-altitude satellite village of Hochfügen provides excellent access to the 86km of slopes that make up the Ski Optimal ski area.
If you're looking for easy access to a less well-known, but large Austrian ski area, then Hochfügen is a great option. With ski-in-ski-out access to the linked slopes with neighbouring Kaltenbach, there's also maximum convenience and thanks to the resort's altitude of almost 1500m, it is one the the most snowsure resorts in the region. The terrain tends to favour intermediate skiers and boarders, but there's good beginner terrain immediately above the village and decent steeper terrain across on the way to Kaltenbach. Whilst travelling across you'll also notice the quality of the lifts – the lift system is one of the best around.
The village itself is quiet and pretty small, but there is the alternative to stay down in Fügen too if you're after more variety on the accommodation, food and bar front. Keep an eye out too on the latest developments in the coming months as there are well-developed plans to link the resort by lift to the local slopes of Fügen, expanding the ski area further.
