Our Ski Club Rep, Val Moore, recently put the deuter Freerider Pro 30 SL, women’s fit, backpack to the test during our Women’s Week – here’s what she thought.
‘Skiers at SCGB Flaine Women’s Week inspected the deuter’s many features with interest. What did we want from our back packs? Two chest straps – not too big – comfortable – side pockets for ‘stuff’! What colours, and what price we wondered? Three Chalet Freshtracks cushions fit into it! Best for touring we thought especially with its clever array of ski carry straps.
It was a real grower on me! On touring day naturally it was most full and its technical features such as helmet holder and water storage were employed. On other piste and powder days it felt light and functional. The soft goggle pouch and emergency whistle caught our attention. Deuter provides quick front access to emergency gear for our avalanche safety practice session, its fumble free clips and cord pulls working first time every time, even with gloves on.
The wider shoulder straps, bag dimensions and various compartments seemed to distribute the load well for me (5ft 9) never once slipping out of place. I found it very stable during the skiing and touring motions. A shorter skier wondered if the waist strap was too low.
Whilst sceptical initially of the extra top-loaded storage space it proved effective in practice, none more than to stow Crement de Savoire and cassis for our apres party back at the Chalet – a pleasure to carry home from the Forum!’
