Carv was born out of the idea that better skiers have more fun. Most of us want to get better, ski harder terrain and feel more confident and controlled whilst doing it. We all want to become more stylish skiers, whatever our level. We believe that it’s not about being the best, but about being better.

But improving is hard, and without the right tools, it’s impossible. In between receiving in person instruction we often turn to guesswork to improve. But this can result in bad habits. With Carv, skiing becomes learning, so every run you ski powers your journey.

Carv does this with wearable motion sensors that analyse your skiing. It helps you improve with real-time coaching that’s always with you, ready for when you want to make that next breakthrough.

Until now, Carv relied on a pressure sensor that was installed in the boot. We’ve listened to lots of our customers, who were anxious about this. Our new product, Carv 2, is a sleek and robust pair of motion sensors, built to survive anything the mountain can throw at them.

It is more accurate across all terrains than the previous version was strictly on-piste. We have achieved this through a new sensor fusion algorithm, and powerful Motion AI.

Improvement doesn’t just take place on-piste, so Carv 2 goes wherever you go. It automatically detects the terrain you’re on, and adjusts its coaching to suit the snow.

Peter Metcalf and the employees of Chouinard Equipment took over in 1989, changed the name to Black Diamond and moved to Salt Lake City, to be at the base of the Wasatch mountains.
