Risoul Ski Resort
For purpose-built convenience, 185km of pistes and tree-lined runs, Risoul ticks lots of boxes.
The linked ski area with the neighbouring resort of Vars is extensive, snowsure and served by 43 lifts. Unfortunately only 8 of these are fast so getting around can take a while, although recent upgrades have made a big difference in certain key sectors. That being said, the slopes offer great variety. The runs immediately above the resort are gentle greens and blues, whilst further up at the Pointe de Razis and into Vars, there's some steeper terrain – including some challenging off piste from the summit of Chabrieres.
Risoul is a purpose-built village, located right at the foot of the main access lifts. Most accommodation is a stone's throw from the slopes so is very convenient and family-friendly. Away from the slopes there's not a huge amount to do, but there's a decent number of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained in the evening. Grenoble is the closest airport, with the drive still taking around 3 hours. Nice and Lyon are around 4 hours away by car.
