Champoluc Rep Report

Our Day

Today is my last day in sunny Champoluc. With a few members out with me to check out the slopes of the Monte Rosa valleys. We agreed to get to Gabiet then traveled a little higher. As with all high mountain areas the cloud suddenly came in and we were bathed in low light. Quick change of the goggles and we headed for coffee at the Adlers Nest. First time here and we were in for a treat. Fantastic coffee and crunchy chocolate cookies to boot – thank you Leah. With a rather unique display of chopping boards?! As we started to head back as one of our party had a luncheon date. On the Champoluc side of the valley the light was better. As we returned to the top of the Sarreza the skies were beautifully blue. Up high a huge bird of prey soaring. Possibly an eagle or vulture none of us too sure. Whereโ€™s graham McMahon when you need him? On high recommendation we made our way to the โ€œLa Mandriaโ€ restaurant tucked away on C10 Del Lago. We were not disappointed, Rล‘sti, Palma ham and buffalo mozzarella – delicious. With the weather being cold in the morning the snow was lasting better today so we concentrated our efforts in and around Champoluc/Frachey, doing a couple of laps. As finish time beckoned we headed back through the now expected heavy return snow. A great day again, ending my two weeks in Champoluc and residency at Hotel Castor. Where Herman, Beatrice and all their family and staff welcomed me from the very first day. Thank you

Weather

Sun blue skies with intermittent cloud. Snow hard pack in the morning soft and heavy in the afternoon
