Zoe Atkin delivered a superb performance to claim bronze in the Women’s Olympic Halfpipe Final in Livigno, securing her place in British skiing history.
With this result, Atkin becomes only the second British athlete ever to win an Olympic medal on skis, marking a landmark moment for British snowsport.
Her podium finish also helped lift Team GB’s medal tally to five, including three gold medals, making this the most successful Winter Games in British Olympic history.
Atkin entered the final in strong form after qualifying in first place and arrived as one of the favourites following her X Games gold earlier this year.
The final showcased world-class competition, particularly from China’s Eileen Gu and Li Fanghui. All three athletes pushed the level throughout, with scores incredibly tight across the decisive runs.
Atkin’s best run earned 90.50, while Li posted 91.50 and Gu secured gold with 94.00 in a thrilling and closely judged contest right to the end.
Speaking to BBC Sport after her medal-winning performance, Atkin said:
“I am so happy. I’ve been looking forward to this for at least the past four years and it was so overwhelming with the crowd and knowing it was the Olympics, so many emotions.
“I was so stressed out and I was crying, and to put two runs down felt so good and the cherry on top is getting on the Olympic podium.”
Her composure under pressure and ability to deliver when it mattered most underline her status as one of the world’s leading halfpipe skiers.
It has been a fantastic Winter Olympics for Team GB, with record-breaking success across disciplines.
Next up is the Paralympic Winter Games, beginning on 6 March. Ski Club GB has an online guide and will provide regular updates on the Para alpine team across its social channels.
