The high-altitude ski resort of Cervinia not only guarantees fantastic snow coverage but also gives access over the border to Zermatt. For that you will need an upgraded lift pass. You can notch up some serious vertical – the 22km route from the Klein Matterhorn to the village of Valtournenche has a drop of more than 2300m – all on well-groomed pistes that are now increasingly equipped with snowmaking to improve snow reliability even further.
Prices are significantly lower than over in Switzerland and the food is fantastic, both in terms of value but also quality. Accommodation is mostly within the compact village centre, but a collection of ski-in-ski-out hotels are located just above and to the east of the centre.
The slopes are high, open and mostly very sunny thanks to their westerly orientation. When the weather is bad however, visibility can be poor and wind closures are a possibility – especially for the lifts crossing to Zermatt. But the high altitude does mean you don’t need to worry about the snow as most of the pistes lie well above 2000m, giving the resort one of Europe’s longest seasons.
What was an old climbing village has grown in to a full-blown ski resort. The cobbled main street is traffic free and whilst it is not the most picturesque, the surrounding scenery is impressive. Much of the evening action happens in hotels, but there are some decent bars and restaurants – serving excellent Italian food.
As a snowsure destination for families this is a good bet, however when the weather is bad the slopes can be inhospitable for younger ones. The ski school is right in the village centre and there is a natural ice rink with a view that most can’t claim – it looks up directly at the Matterhorn. Many of the hotels have good facilities for children.
Cervinia is relatively quiet on the après front, but happy hours are a popular feature at bars in resort including Lino’s and The Yeti, especially during the spring months when the resort basks in evening sunshine. To explore the best that the entire resort has to offer, the Ski Club Rep’s social hour rotates on a weekly basis.
Summer skiing is normally made available to skiers on the glacier at Zermatt – accessible from Cervinia – soon after the winter closing date.
A local pass is available for Cervinia only (including Valtourneche), but intermediates upwards will want a full area lift pass.

Updated 22/01
Good, consistent snowfall will come to most of the Italian Alps in one of the rare seasons where Italy outperforms its Alpine neighbours. At least 30cm can be expected over the course of this weekend and into the new year, beginning on Friday in all areas and strengthening on Saturday. Temperatures remain cold throughout this period with the freezing line staying settled below 1,500m throughout.
A brief pause in the idiocy follows on Sunday and Monday with threats of sunshine in the Dolomites and Piemonte, but snow quickly returns into the new week even as the freezing line spikes close to 2,000m; this does mean snowfall will be more limited to higher ground over this period, but around 15-20cm will fall helping boost already good levels on this side of the Main Alpine Ridge.
Areas close to the Mont Blanc Massif could see a big dump over this period, with 50cm expected over the highest slopes in the middle of the week.
Meet your Rep using the details below, or reach out to them using the contact number or via the Ski Club App.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 4 January and 28 March 2026, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Sunday in this resort. Log your upcoming trip to Cervinia now via the “My Trips” function on the Ski Club App to let your Rep know when you’ll be in resort. I first put on skis in Moscow, aged 3, and then lived in Switzerland as a boy. During my adult life I have skied, taught and raced in multiple locations whilst managing a corporate career and, latterly, running my own business. As a rep I hope to meet new people and keep skiing in both new and familiar places. I am a keen gardener and am currently qualifying as a scuba diving instructor, the plan being to have fun in all seasons
After a career working in offices, I have escaped!!
I love nothing more than being in the mountains – summer (cycling and hiking) and winter (skiing). The majesty of the high Alps, the wonder of fresh powder under blue skies and the complete freedom from the day-to-day. I have been skiing since the age of eight and enjoy touring, resort skiing (mainly in Switzerland and France) and off-piste (in fact anything on skis!). In my late 40s, I took up ski racing and now compete in the Mürren Inferno (www.inferno-muerren.ch) and other races across the Alps.
I fell in love with skiing on a school ski trip as a teenager. Since then I have managed 1 or 2 weeks on snow most seasons. Having recently completed the Reps Course I’m excited to get the opportunity to spend more time in the mountains, hopefully phasing in more skiing with less time in my day job. Outside of skiing I enjoy windsurfing, sailing, hiking and mountain biking. I enjoy travelling, particularly exploring Europe in our camper van.
I love to meet up with Ski Club members for a day on the slopes, preferably followed by a beer. An early 'career' in athletics (the days of Coe and Ovett!) ensured I was a late starter on the slopes at 42. I've since spent most winter hols on skis and, now retired, I'm determined to ski even more. The Geographer in me means I particularly enjoy making journeys through the landscape; ideal for all 3 of my Repping slots this year. Please try and pre-register if you are coming to ski with me in resort so I know to look out for you in the social hour or on the piste!
Hello members! I've been a snowsports addict for about 10 years and love the whole lifestyle that surrounds it. I enjoy using the entire mountain and like to get to every corner. I would describe myself as a freerider, not freestyle, i'm addicted to off piste powder although I do enjoy the jumps in the park or jibbing around off the side of the piste. In 2012 i spent 2 1/2 months in canada touring 13 resorts finding some little gems along the way and fresh powder at every resort . I also love motor sport ,big boys toys and most things that burn a hole in the ozone . I have competed in a couple motorcycle sports, even the Rachau hill climb in Austria where my friend and I were the only British competitors. Another must is my annual trip to the Nurburgring. i own several motorcycles , classic VW's and a fast n furious tokyo drift BMW .Please visit the social hour to discuss the next days events, I can change the programme to what people want and the snow conditions. All hail the powder
