Champagny provides access to the 225km of pistes and 102 lifts in La Plagne.
It is ideal for intermediates with 80% of runs being blue or red. The gondola that links into the Paradiski area rises to 2000m within eight minutes, giving access to 425 kilometres of pistes. Good snow is guaranteed in the Paradiski area with 70% of pistes at over 2000m. At the top of the gondola, chairlifts take skiers to a choice of green and blue runs that are perfect for beginners.
Champagny is at the opposite end of the slopes from the link to Les Arcs but well placed for an outing by taxi or car to Courchevel or even to another resort in the 3 Vallées. Given good snow, there are lovely runs home to Champagny (though not recommended for near-beginners). However, due to being south-facing the runs are often not in the best condition in the afternoon.
The resort itself is full of charm with many traditional buildings made of wood and stone and a baroque church. There is accommodation for parties of various sizes with options ranging from studio apartments to chalets sleeping 15 people. The activities in the village are limited but the adventurous types can try their hand at ice climbing on the ice tower. The village is quiet but is ideal for those who want a peaceful holiday whilst still having access to a large ski area.

What must be the first Nordstau event of the year hits the Alps over the course of this week, bringing a return to winter conditions across much of the Northern French Alps. The freezing line will decline through the middle of this week, dropping close to sea level overnight Thursday into Friday.
At the same time, northerly unsettled conditions working their way in across Central and Eastern Europe brings snowfall to many areas north of the Briancon-Gap line. Over higher ground this could see as much as a foot-and-a-half through Wednesday evening and into Thursday; as the freezing line declines over this period, snow will work its way down to lower elevations, but the best conditions will remain above 2,000m.
A brief pause in the snowfall over Saturday still sees cloudy conditions dominating; a few more flurries move in over higher ground on Sunday, as the freezing line recovers to around 2,000m. The long term forecast then calls for sun and fine, dry and bright conditions to dominate as high pressure returns to the area.
