The three-valley network of lifts and pistes is anything but small-scale. Champoluc is at one end of it and Alagna at the other – they are 17km apart – slightly further apart than Courchevel and Val-Thorens. However, it’s around a four-hour trip by road to get from Alagna to Champoluc if you miss the last lift.
Given the lack of international exposure it retains a friendly, small-scale, unspoiled Italian ambience. Yet it offers some of the best off piste in the whole of Italy.
The Monterosa Ski Area employs dynamic pricing, with the topline rate varying between โฌ38 and โฌ67 per day, depending on time of year, day, and demand. Discounts off this topline day rate are available the further you book in advance, when booking online, and booking consecutive days.
You can use your Ski Club Membership card to load your Monterosa Ski Area lift ticket, either online or at the ticket office, and avoid the โฌ2 fee for purchasing a new RFID card from the resort. More details can be found here.

Today is my last day in sunny Champoluc. With a few members out with me to check out the slopes of the Monte Rosa valleys. We agreed to get to Gabiet then traveled a little higher. As with all high mountain areas the cloud suddenly came in and we were bathed in low light. Quick change of the goggles and we headed for coffee at the Adlers Nest. First time here and we were in for a treat. Fantastic coffee and crunchy chocolate cookies to boot – thank you Leah. With a rather unique display of chopping boards?! As we started to head back as one of our party had a luncheon date. On the Champoluc side of the valley the light was better. As we returned to the top of the Sarreza the skies were beautifully blue. Up high a huge bird of prey soaring. Possibly an eagle or vulture none of us too sure. Whereโs graham McMahon when you need him? On high recommendation we made our way to the โLa Mandriaโ restaurant tucked away on C10 Del Lago. We were not disappointed, Rลsti, Palma ham and buffalo mozzarella – delicious. With the weather being cold in the morning the snow was lasting better today so we concentrated our efforts in and around Champoluc/Frachey, doing a couple of laps. As finish time beckoned we headed back through the now expected heavy return snow. A great day again, ending my two weeks in Champoluc and residency at Hotel Castor. Where Herman, Beatrice and all their family and staff welcomed me from the very first day. Thank you
Sun blue skies with intermittent cloud. Snow hard pack in the morning soft and heavy in the afternoon

The weekend opens warm across Italy, with the freezing line hovering around 3,500m. This will fall over the course of the weekend and into the new week, and as a layer of cloud cover moves in this brings with it precipitation.
This will fall as snow in parts especially across the northern Alps. Up to 20cm could fall in the Dolomites and elsewhere, primarily across higher ground as the freezing line remains above 2,000m when the snow arrives. A brief flash of sun through the middle of new week before another burst of unsettled weather moves in over the region later in the week.
Thus concludes the Ski Club’s snow overviews for the 2024/25 season; thank you to everyone who’s tuned in over the course of the season, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

A member of Ski Club in the 1984 and I did the Leaders course in 1998. I love extending peoples skiing so they make the most of the mountain and their vacation. Both on / off piste and in bars. I have enjoyed repping in Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland. In particular Wengen, Davos, Sass Fee, Zell am Zee, Mayrhofen, Les Arcs, Sun Peaks Resort, Alpe d'Huez, Tignes, Cervina, Champoluc. The only racing I do is in the Murren Inferno between 9km and 15km. I now cycle about 30- 75 miles at the weekend to keep my legs fit for skiing. Being out doors is fantastic. My goals are to cycle the Cheshire ring (the hard bit is avoiding the pubs) and Trans Pennine Trail. In the Mountains I am planning to walk / climb the East ridge of the Eiger in Wengen in the summer. Also A circular hut to hut tour in Sexten Dolomites, Italy most spectacular scenery. Any 3- 7 day ski touring trips I can fit in the Spring.
I started skiing at school in Inverness a long time ago.
Since then, Iโve skied and toured all around Europe, and have done a couple of seasons in France since I retired from work.
I enjoy all types of skiing, but prefer to be off piste as much as possible when itโs safe to do that.
My other hobbies are climbing and sailing. I was involved in mountain rescue for nearly 20 years, and learned a bit about mountain safety/first aid through that work.
I discovered skiing as a teenager, going with the school and a group of friends and really enjoyed it. I find skiing a combination of exhilarating, sometimes challenging, a bit technical as you try to improve and out of this world when there is good snow and sunshine.
Once I started work in finance I took a long break from skiing starting again in earnest in 2016 taking the family (to the 3 Vallees) and then I discovered the Ski Club. I have met some wonderful members, Reps and instructors on various Freshtrack holidays and I think the Ski Club is a fantastic way to meet and ski with like minded people.
In 2024 now retired I am fairly active and I wondered how I could get more involved with the Ski Club and decided I would become a Ski Club Rep. So here I am hopefully I can serve up some Rep goodness from the other side of the fence!
After learning to ski in Australia aged 8, I have been a passionate skier since. It is with great fortune that i have skied in Australia, Europe and America, giving me the opportunity to enjoy many different types of skiing. Now, as Ski Club Rep, I love the variety of skiing and skiers. It is wonderful to ski indifferent reports, on different terrains with all types of skiers. All with one commonality - a real passion for the sport.
When I'm not on skis, I work, managing large teams through transformational change, and have two teenagers to keep my busy!
I have been repping since 2006 and have enjoyed the amazing community that is the Ski Club. It is a privilege to meet and ski with members old and new.
When not repping I love travelling and this year I am crewing on a Clipper in the Caribbean, travelling from Budapest to Venice by train through the Swiss Alps, and hiking in the Japanese Alps inย autumn.
I look forward to skiing with you this season.
