Cortina d'Ampezzo is a fantastic ski resort with great terrain and some truly jaw-dropping scenery.

Although many of the resort’s visitors won’t set foot on snow, the ski area is fantastic and is home to some of the best on piste skiing in the Alps. Ample snowmaking, good grooming and a real lack of crowds make for usually excellent pistes, even if Mother Nature has not been favourable. At every turn there is spectacular scenery and the trip to the top of the Tofana is well worth it for the epic views across the Italian Dolomites. The town itself has a great buzz and is full of great restaurants and bars, as well as some seriously impressive shops – although many will only be in budget for a select few!

Reps in Cortina d'Ampezzo

We regret to announce that our Reps service will not return to Cortina d’Ampezzo for the 2024/25 season and beyond. We encourage Members skiing in this resort to use our social media facilities – including Ski Club App and Resort Facebook Groups – to reach out to fellow Members moving forward.

On the Slopes

The ski area is home to a fantastic, sunny beginners area – perfect for first timers. From here, progression onto the long, gentle blues above Socrepes is excellent, aided by good grooming and reliable snow conditions.

Intermediates will love the long blues and reds on the Tofana side of the hill, especially the dramatic runs near the summit – the views on the lift up are unique and absolutely spectacular. The time it takes to reach the summit has been significantly cut due to a new gondola between Cortina and Col Druscié.

The runs on Faloria are generally shorted but steeper and suit more advanced skiers as it is here where most of the blacks are. Although there is some off piste, the modest natural snowfall and steep Dolomite terrain mean that options are generally a little limited.

In the Resort

The resort itself is a collection of smart, private chalets and numerous hotels. Although there are some seriously expensive and glamorous options, you needn’t break the bank as there are some great family-run three and four star hotels and guesthouses. Just note that most will be a good walk or a bus ride away from the slopes, but there is a good bus service linking the lifts.

Cortina is usually very lively and the chic bars in town are often busy at the end of the ski day. While prices are generally higher than in much of Italy, they’re still not quite at Zermatt or Courchevel levels. The food, both on and off the mountain, is usually excellent, with local Dolomite dishes on most menus. Then, if shopping is your thing, there are few better ski resorts for some retail therapy.

Getting to Cortina d'Ampezzo

Venice airport is only two hours to the south of Cortina, giving ample opportunities to tie in a visit to the beautiful lagoon city on to either end of your trip. Verona is another option, but the drive takes around an hour longer.

After a good couple of weeks for the Italian Alps, things settle down through this week as high pressure brings fine, dry and bright conditions to the region.

Temperatures will be warm, with the freezing line dropping only to 2,500m overnight and climbing as high as 3,500m in the midday sun. A rare flutter of cloud could move in over on Friday and Sunday, but otherwise spring is firmly here in the Italian Alps.

A couple of flurries of snow could fall early next week as the freezing line drops in to the new week, but it remains a bit too early to tell exactly how much, when, and where this might fall.
