A gondola from town accesses a decent network of tree-lined slopes, nestled in the far southeast corner of the French Pyrenees.

Most of the terrain is well suited to beginners and early intermediates, particularly the gentle greens off the Gallinera mountain. There are some steeper challenges on the north facing slopes down to Aveillans, plus a very good snowpark in the Roc de la Calme peak.

In terms of accommodation, there’s two main choices. By staying down in Font Romeu itself, you’ll get a traditional mountain village, complete with a 12th Century church and a wide range of food and drink options – all of which are cheaper than in their Alpine neighbours. The other alternative is the purpose- built Pyrenees 2000 base, which is home to lots of good value apartments and a decent selection of bars and restaurants. Travel from Toulouse airport to get here, the transfer takes approximately 3 hours.

Ski Club Recognised: Environmentally Sustainable Resort

The Ski Club uses third party independent assessments and accreditation of ski resorts to determine a resort “environmentally sustainable” – more information can be found here.

As part of the French Flocon Vert (tr. Green Snowflake) scheme, Font Romeu has been awarded one snowflakes out of a possible three, representing investment in resources to reduce its environmental impact. Flocon Vert is an independent scheme operated by Mountain Riders, which accredits resorts in France who have met twenty criteria based on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
