Portillo

Loved by advanced skiers due to the steep gradients and training base for many national ski teams during the Northern Hemisphere summer. The historic Hotel Portillo is the centrepiece of the resort.

Portillo is a small ski area but it has something for all abilities. Beginners need not venture far to access suitable runs as the beginners areas are located next to the Hotel Portillo.

Beginners should start by tackling the green next to the ski box kiosk before moving on to the green accessed by the El Puma lift and then some of the gentle blues located in the same area. Intermediates should head over to the other side of the valley to access some longer, more challenging blues, in particular the Juncalillo. For advanced skiers there are some fantastic runs, particularly on a powder day. The Garganta and Roca Jack black runs are always popular and for good reason. The Roca Jack can be accessed by the unique Va et Vient linked button that skiers ride four or five abreast. There is some fabulous off piste terrain and steep powder bowls – though much of it involves hiking or heli-skiing to. The bright yellow Hotel Portillo is the main accommodation option in Portillo.

Beside it are two small lodges offering dormitory-style rooms. Visitors should fly into Santiago airport and from there the transfer is two hours by car.
