The small ski area packs a punch for its size, offering decent variety and of course the all important floodlit skiing for a resort this far north.

The lift system is improving and as of 2020/21, all main slopes will be served by fast chairlifts. That being said, this really is a resort for beginners and intermediates, with a vertical drop extending to only 280m and little in the way of challenging slopes (unless you’re into freestyle as there’s decent park facilities). Snow reliability is usually very good, but do come prepared for cold temperatures, especially in the darker, mid-winter months.

Off the slopes, the resort of Pyhä comes into its own, with everything from dogsled rides to cross country skiing on offer – with the latter particularly popular in the rolling forests surrounding the ski hill. Lots of family- friendly accommodation is on offer, plus there’s the option to rent a cabin in the woods for a truly Finnish experience – especially as most of them will have a sauna! Get here from Rovaniemi, which lies only 150km to the southwest.
