Forecast today: Occasional snow
Much of the accommodation can be found in self-catered cabins, dotted around the forests in between the various ski areas. Local supermarkets can be found at each of the bases, but you may want to consider picking up provisions on the way from the airport. Kläppen is the first ski area you’ll see if driving up from Stockholm, lying just to the south of Sälen. Its self-contained 32km area of slopes is served by a gondola and there is a good mix of slopes, including a big terrain park and a few blacks, as well as a raft of beginner runs.
Lindvallen is the closest resort to the centre of Sälen and is home to the best beginner zone in the area. The lower slopes are full of gentle green slopes and easy draglifts, while greater challenges can be found higher up. It is also linked to a further area of gentle runs at Högfjället.
The largest area is the linked Tandådalen and Hundfjället zone, which covers 45km of groomed runs. At the former, two fast chairs and several drags serve some steeper slopes, many of which are floodlit at night, while at the latter an impressive lift fleet that includes two 8-seater chairs serves arguably the steepest terrain in the area – particularly the runs to Vaggen.
The fourth area of Stöten lies almost right on the Norwegian border and is a little further away, but this too is a great beginner hill. Some steeper runs, including a World Cup slalom piste do exist, however this family friendly hill is very much geared towards beginners.

Updated 10/03
Mild conditions continue across much of Scandinavia throughout this week, with temperature sitting just about the wrong side of freezing at mid-mountain level. Across the region, the freezing line will then drop as the week concludes and the weekend dawns, bringing with it more unsettled weather and snowfall.
Around 10cm can be expected down across southerly and central areas, reduced to just a few flurries further north and northwest. This cold pattern will then continue into the new week.
