It has been a great start to the Scottish winter judging by recent images and social media posts from the British Backcountry community. Enough snow has fallen on the higher slopes in the Cairngorms to offer up some excellent early-season touring. Hopefully this snow will stick around and form a great base ahead of the winter.
None of the ski areas are open yet, but snowmaking has commenced at all resorts (thanks to their all-weather Snowfactories) which is great news ahead of the upcoming season. At Cairngorm, the news that the funicular will remain out of action all season is a blow, but in more positive news, their extensive system of fan guns has been blasting out artificial snow on to the lower slopes during colder spells.
