A gondola from the resort takes you up towards the wide, quiet slopes above Thyon 2000, which for many would be enough in themselves
However, a couple of lifts later (sadly these are still pretty long draglifts), and you’ll be down in Siviez with the vast Verbier Four Valleys ski area at your fingertips. Although many of the slopes are rated red, the main attractions are the long off piste itineraries that make the ski area so famous.
The resort itself is very quiet compared to its more famous neighbour and is even quieter than nearby Nendaz just over the valley. There’s spectacular views over the Rhone Valley and the road up is pretty epic in itself, with the switchbacks making for an adventurous drive up.

Getting to Veysonnaz
As with many Swiss resorts, getting to Verbier is easiest by train and the excellent Swiss Railway System although the final stretch must be made by bus or gondola – Geneva is the closest airport at just under three hours away.
Driving from Geneva takes around two hours and numerous companies offer transfers, which is much easier than hiring a car as parking is at a premium in the resort.
- Geneva airport: 2 hours (driving) – 2.5 hours (by train)
- Zürich airport: 3 hours (driving) – 4 hours (by train)
- Basel airport: 3 hours (driving) – 4.5 hours (by train)
- Calais: approximately 10 hours driving (528 miles)

the first Nordstau of the season (in late March, would you believe it) is set to bring excellent conditions across particularly eastern reaches of the country through the middle of this week. Unsettled conditions moving in from the north plummet temperatures, with the freezing line taking a long walk off a short pier through this period; dropping from a daytime high above 2,000m on Wednesday to sea level overnight into Friday.
With this unsettled weather will come excellent snowfall; the west will see useful top ups of around 20cm falling on Wednesday afternoon and throughout Thursday, whereas the east will see bumper conditions with up to 2ft expected down at the same time. This will peak on Thursday, when c.50cm is expected down over higher ground.
Expect the avalanche forecast to climb over this period, as this new snow may well be sitting on a spring freeze-thaw crust and/or a very wet snowpack thanks to spring melt.
Things will return to a more spring-like norm as the weekend arrives, with spring freeze-thaw cycles in play and plenty of sun; a few lingering clouds will bring snowfall on Sunday and into the new week, but it remains a bit too far out to say exactly how much will fall, when, and where.
