Snow has once again fallen across many of our American resorts over the past few days, with the Rockies, New England and California all seeing fantastic conditions. Coupled with temperatures remaining well below zero are keeping the conditions in great shape, in some cases a marked contrast to past weeks especially in the North East.
Resorts in New England got hammered by the third severe storm in recent weeks. Now the inhospitable conditions have passed, resorts such as Smugglers Notch (46/152cm) were left with more than 125cm of new snow from the past week, eradicating any signs of the spring conditions seen in early march across the area.
Conditions are almost as impressive in the Rockies, with resorts in Utah seeing 50cm+ over the weekend in Snowbasin (155cm), and Snowbird (267cm). While Colorado saw slightly smaller amounts, these were by no means insubstantial, with 23cm in Steamboat (140/191cm) and 30cm in Telluride (122cm). Sunnier skies and slightly rising temperatures are expected over the coming week, though not enough to detrimentally impact the piste quality.
And not to be left out, resorts in California are also reporting mammoth quantities of new snow. Squaw valley (216/376cm) recorded more than 2m of snow over the past four days, while Mammoth(202/356cm) also seeing massive amounts. Be aware though, photos and webcams making it appear as if half the state journeyed to enjoy the snow, so unfortunately expect some very heavily tracked off piste unless you venture far from the beaten path.
