Solitude Ski Resort
Solitude provides up to 12m of Utah powder each season, challenging terrain and a quiet, convenient resort base.
Located at the head of Big Cottonwood Canyon, just over the valley from Alta and just over the ridge from Park City, Solitude is sometimes overlooked – which is unfortunate as it is home to some of Utah's best terrain. There's a good beginner area served by the Moonbeam lift, but the main attractions are the steep gullies, bowls and tree runs served off the Summit Express. In particular, Honeycomb Canyon, Fantasy Ridge and Evergreen Peak are known for their steep and deep terrain, some of which is accessed by short boot packs from the top of the lift.
The resort is small, compact and convenient – don't come here expecting lots of restaurants, lively après and a big variety of accommodation – but it does make a very good base for your trip. This is especially the case after big snowfall, which can close the access road, giving you access straight to the mountain before the crowds arrive up from Salt Lake City. If you're interested in cross country skiing, then the Nordic Centre is first class and a great place to stretch your legs before or after a long day on the slopes.
