Weekly programme, social hour, and contact details
Our only issue with the ski area is the relatively low altitude. Despite a lot of snowmaking, the resort runs can be closed, especially early and late in the season and snow quality can suffer on south-facing slopes. Morzine is a large resort – almost a town – meaning that some accommodation is a walk away from the slopes, but what you get is a huge choice of places to stay, restaurants to eat in and bars to have an aprรจs drink at โ lots of these are very lively, especially at weekends when visitors make the most of the quick transfer from Geneva to pack out the slopes and the bars.
Although there are a couple of short drags on the edge of town, the best beginner slopes are in the Kids Zone located at mid-mountain level, at the top of the Pleney gondola. Longer greens and gentle blues can be found across in the Super Morzine sector. More confident skiers and boarders will be able to enjoy the vast majority of the Les Gets-Morzine ski area โ our favourite runs are the long reds served by the recently built Ranfoilly Express.
Exploring the rest of the Portes du Soleil is well worth it for confident intermediates upwards โ advanced and expert skiers should certainly buy the full lift pass and explore all 580km of slopes. Locally however, there are some decent steep runs at Mont Chery and also above Morzine in the Nyon and Chamossiรจre sectors โ where the best off piste can also be found.
The size of Morzine means it has a huge variety of accommodation โ but if youโre looking for maximum convenience try and be as near to the Pleney gondola as possible. It has a very family-friendly reputation, with lots of well-appointed, catered chalets to choose from. Despite this, Morzine is one of the livelier French ski resorts, with a good aprรจs ski scene, especially at weekends when visitors flock in for a couple of days on snow.
Off the slopes there is plenty to cater for the non-skiing market. Morzine is home to a very good swimming pool and sports centre โ ideal for snowy days, as well as an ice hockey team to cheer on throughout the winter! Outdoors, there is an excellent network of winter walking trails and cross country tracks, plus a couple of sledging routes.
Morzine caters well for families. On the mountain there are gentle, sheltered slopes and play areas. And there are plenty of other activities. Club des Piou Piou is run by the ESF school and takes children from three years old.
Morzine’s apres-ski is good by French resort standards. Several places around the base area get busy as the slopes empty – the Tremplin has live music’ and a lively atmosphere. The Crepu is a sports bar, pleasantly quiet early on but livening up later. Other options include the long-established Bar Robinson and the Dixie, with sport on TV, a cellar bar and some live music. Between the slopes and the centre, and all in the same building, are several spots: the Cavern, which is popular with seasonaires; the Coyote for arcade games and DJ. The Opera and Laury’s are late-night haunts.
Getting here from Geneva is very easy โ the drive only takes an hour โ so this is an excellent weekend destination. The drive from the UK is one of the quickest and shortest too.

The Ski Club uses third party independent assessments and accreditation of ski resorts to determine a resort โenvironmentally sustainable” โ more information can be found here.
As part of the French Flocon Vert (tr. Green Snowflake) scheme, Morzine โ as part of the wider Morzine-Avoriaz resort area โ has been awarded one snowflake out of a possible three, representing investment in resources to reduce its environmental impact. Flocon Vert is an independent scheme operated by Mountain Riders, which accredits resorts in France who have met twenty criteria based on environmental, social and economic sustainability.

The penultimate snow overview for this season very much heralds the end of the season across the French Alps, with only a handful of resorts still open amidst rising temperatures and dry conditions.
Sun dominates the French Alps through the middle of this week, with spring conditions as the freezing line fluctuates from 3,000m overnight to 3,500m during the midday sun – higher than even the highest slopes. Cloud cover moves in as the weekend approaches, but this only works to trap the heat, helping the freezing line climb above 4,000m briefly on Friday.
A few drops of rain are expected on Sunday, but this will fall as rain. A couple of flocons could fall across higher ground into the new week, just as the final resorts bring lift operations to a close for the season.
Our Reps service in Morzine has now concluded for the season; thank you to all our Reps who helped Members and non-Members alike discover better skiing! We look forward to seeing you all in in resort next season.
