With 78 trails to choose from, reliable snow thanks to an impressive snowmaking system and pretty tree-lined slopes,

Smugglers’ Notch is a reliable choice for your East Coast ski holiday.

Morse Mountain has one of the best beginner areas in the USA, boasting gentle learning slopes right through to longer, winding greens. Madonna and Stirling Mountains are bigger, steeper and offer up great variety, with everything from long, cruisey blues to steep double (and even triple) diamond blacks.

The purpose-built resort ensure maximum convenience and offers up a good choice of accommodation, restaurants and off slope activities. It is located just up the road from the resort of Stowe, making it a good destination for a multi- resort trip. Fly to the small airport of Burlington for the quickest access, with alternatives (just note there’ll be a long drive) being Montreal or Boston.

The sad demise of Left Coast skiing continues this week, with more resorts shuttering with each passing day in the wake of what is now officially a record-low snowpack in Utah. Temperatures remain mild throughout this forecast period across the Rockies, PNW, and Tetons, with a few bursts of rain along the way.

Things may turn colder into the weekend with a few flurries of snow, but whether there is a snowpack left for this to boost is anyone’s guess.

Out on the Ice Coast, things start this period cold and snowy, but rapidly turn mild as the freezing line leaps over tall buildings in a single bound. Things will fluctuate slightly, plus a flurry of rain in to start the weekend to keep things interesting.
