Obertauern Ski Resort
If you're looking for incredible snow reliability, well groomed slopes and a lively resort village, Obertauern ticks all your boxes.
An impressive lift system, featuring slick gondolas, world-first chondola lifts and several fast chairs with heated seats serves an impressive 100km of varied slopes, all of which are located between a snowsure altitude of 1600-2300m. Snowmaking further adds to the snow reliability, making this a great early or late season choice. Much of the terrain is suited to beginners and intermediates, and unless there's fresh snow there is little to attract experts – only 4% of the resort's runs are marked black.
Most of the accommodation is located right at the foot of the lifts, offering up ski-in-ski-out options that make this a great family-friendly option. There's a lively après scene at the end of the ski day and the resort is known for having a great selection of mountain restaurants. Off the slopes there's some good cross country trails and a number of prepared winter walking trails. Access from Salzburg is quick and easy, with the drive taking around 75 minutes.
