Wildschönau Ski Resort
Wildschönau lies at the eastern edge of the Ski Juwel ski area, with direct lift access to the slopes of Alpbach.
Access from Wildschönau-Auffach to the main slopes of the Schatzberg Mountain is provided by a fast two-stage gondola, whisking skiers and boarders to the slopes and the link to the runs on the other side of the Alpbach valley. It is possible to ski back down to the Auffach valley, but not down all the way to Alpbach – you'll need to download the final stage of the gondola. Most of the runs suit beginners and intermediates best, but in good snow conditions, there's some decent off piste options. The only issue here is snow reliability, but snowmaking investment has improved things a lot recently.
The village of Wildschönau-Auffach is small, compact and very convenient for families. It is the last real village in the valley, so through traffic is limited and the small family-run hotels are very much aimed at those with kids – definitely don't come here expecting lively après ski and a vast array of bars.
