Valfréjus Ski Resort

Valfréjus is built over the Fréjus road and rail tunnels from Modane to Italy. It's a small, purpose-built development in the forest, with most of the skiing higher up on open slopes.

The main access gondola goes to Plateau d'Arrondaz (2220m), where there are nursery slopes and short blue runs. The heart of the skiing is the peak of Punta Bagna (2735m), with two six-packs serving slopes on the front and back - direct genuine blacks back to Plateau d'Arrondaz on the front of the hill (500m vertical), less direct reds and roundabout blues elsewhere, including a glorious long blue all the way to the resort for a vertical of almost 1200m. There are more direct blue and black ways home, too. The pistes total 70km.

The resort consists mostly of a cluster of chalet-shaped apartment blocks around the lift base, with smaller residences and individual chalets dotted around. There are cleared paths, and snowshoe outings. A chairlift of 160m vertical serves toboggan runs 3km long. Chambery airport is the closest airport to Valfréjus at just an hour and 20 minute drive away. Alternative airports are Grenoble and Geneva which are an hour and a half and a two hour drive away respectively.
