Quiet village perched on a sunny hillside opposite its own sector of the Alpe-d'Huez ski area.
It is an attractive, relaxing alternative to the modern ski station. The gondola takes you to the local slopes at Montfrais, via a mid-station below the tiny, rustic hamlet of La Villette. The only run back down the valley ends at the mid-station and it's of steepish blue gradient, so not ideal for timid intermediates. Montfrais itself though has a good children's area and lots of gentle cruising runs. Vaujany's cable car whisks you to the heart of the Alpe-d'Huez slopes for access to the rest of the area. There are few places to rival Alpe-d'Huez and its Massif des Grandes Rousses for extent and variety of terrain - in good wintery conditions it's one of our favourites. In late season though, the effects of the strong southern sun become more of a problem.
