This rule was previously in place for under-16s, but now includes all adult slope users, too, from 1 November 2025. This comes in the wake of growing concerns regarding on safety across the Alps.
Failing to adhere to this rule could see fines of up to 200โฌ and a suspension of your lift pass.
The Italian Alps have traditionally led the way in enforcing rules surrounding on-snow safety. For some years now, personal liability insurance has been mandatory; all resort areas sell insurance as an โadd onโ to lift passes to ensure you have the appropriate cover. In addition, all of the Ski Clubโs insurance products include liability insurance as standard, helping Members to remain the right side of the law at all times.
Other rules in Italy introduced in recent years include mandating the carrying of avalanche transceivers when skiing off piste. Failure to adhere to these rules could see similar fines and lift pass suspensions imposed.
Italy is the first country in the world to impose a helmet mandate for all adult slope users. Several other countries have similar rules for teenagers and children, but these have not so far been extended to adults.
The Italian resort of Cortina dโAmpezzo is one of several resorts hosting the Winter Olympics this season, along with the city of Milan. With all eyes on the Italian Alps in winter 2025/26, authorities will be doing everything they can to ensure everyone stays safe on the slopes this season.
