Set in the Italian Dolomites, Kronplatz may well be the best destination in Europe for those wanting an efficient lift system, comprised almost entirely of gondolas, serving cruising on piste terrain.

To add to this, Kronplatz is part of the huge Dolomiti Superski area.

While many ski resorts comprise a base, with lifts spreading out in varying directions, the opposite is true of Kronplatz. Instead, almost all lifts rise to the same place. Enjoy the massive 1300m of vertical descent down 116km of pistes, including runs of up to 10km. There is a good beginners run which drops from the top of the shortest gondola back down to the resort centre. The area is excellent for progressing beginners and intermediates with a large amount of wide blue runs and gentle red runs, largely located in the ‘Panetone’ ski area.

Advanced skiers should drop down the other side of the ‘Panetone’ where there are some long, challenging black runs which have in the past been used by the Italian world cup team as a training base. Other challenging runs can be accessed by taking the shuttle bus from Kronplatz to Alta Badia.

There are many choices of places to stay for those visiting Kronplatz. The city of Brunico is only a short train ride away and the Kronplatz Ried gondola departs from the train station. Alternatively, for those wanting ski in, ski out accommodation, Riscone and Perca are the best options. Innsbruck airport is the closest to Kronplatz, situated a two hour and 15 minute transfer away.
