There is incredible mountain terrain, loads of small local ski areas and some of Japan's finest backcountry terrain in the South Tohoku region.
A typical day out here will include accessing the backcountry with a guide by day to ski the region’s light, dry powder, retiring in the evening to a traditional ryokan hotel and relaxing in a thermally-heated onsen, before eating delicious Japanese delicacies, washed down with warm sake or a local beer.
