Oppdal Ski Resort
Oppdal is one of Norway's larger resorts and is home to 56km of family-friendly slopes and over 700m of vertical.
There's three main ski areas rising out of the valley above the town of Oppdal, Vangslia to the west, Hovden in the centre and Stolen to the east. The former is definitely suited best to beginners and early intermediates, plus it has its own base and range of accommodation at the base. Hovden and Stolen have steeper slopes, including a number of blacks, some mogul runs and their World Cup racetrack. Off the back of the ski area there are numerous ski touring options – hire a local guide and they'll take you to the best spots.
For accommodation there are two options – either staying at the foot of the Vangslia lifts (the best option for families) or down in the small town of Oppdal itself. Here you'll find a good range of facilities, from supermarkets to cafes and restaurants, giving you the option to self-cater if you wish. Away from the slopes, cross country skiing is very popular, as is snowshoeing. Getting here is easy, with a two hour transfer from the airport in Trondheim.
