The oldest of the three ski areas in Banff National Park, Mount Norquay opened its doors in 1926, and has a been a local favourite ever since.

Despite it's small size compared to Sunshine Village and Lake Louise it still manages to offer varied terrain.

Featuring great runs for beginners and families the resort remains a historic destination for alpine ski racing. The slopes overlook the town of Banff and can be the place to go on a powder day when others flock to the bigger ski areas instead. Famously big bumps can be found off the North American chair and this is also a good place for early season skiing – with 85% snowmaking coverage across the area’s 60 marked trails.

The resort is only a few minutes drive from Banff itself, one of the liveliest and best ski towns in North America. There’s a big seasonnaire crowd and numerous bars and restaurants (be sure to check out the various Happy Hour offers), making this a seriously fun resort after dark. Add to this the easy access to the other two ski areas outside of Banff, the spectacular scenery and the easy access from Calgary (the transfer takes around 2 hours), and it is clear why Banff is such a popular destination.

The Coastals get hit with a mega period of cold and snowy weather through the course of this week, with this forecast period bookended by around 30cm over Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by another 20m on the weekend. Things will remain cold throughout, with the freezing line staying around or below 1,000m throughout – enough to boost upper slopes.

BC Interior will remain settled throughout this period, with temperatures floating around freezing at mid-mountain level. A brief flurry of snowfall will see in this forecast period, but barely enough to measure on the snowstake.

Over the Rockies, freezing weather over the Plains brings with it plummeting temperatures, with the freezing line hitting sea level through the middle of this week. Good snowfall will accompany this, bringing around 20cm down.

Finally, the St Lawrence has a mixed week, with temperatures floating around up to freezing and dropping to -13°C at times. A few flurries of snow will fall at times throughout the week, too.
