Forecast today: Snow
Much of its recognition comes from hosting annual World Cup races on the Birds of Prey racetrack as well as three separate ski racing World Championships, but there is much more to the resort than just racing. The tree-lined slopes offer some fantastic variety, from the gentle greens in Bachelor Gulch to the steep blacks on Grouse Mountain, there is something for everyone here.
Service has always been high on the Beaver Creek resort agenda and it really focuses on providing an upmarket experience for guests. Much of the base village has heated pavements to make getting around easy, free hot chocolate and free cookies are handed out on the slopes and all of the staff are incredibly friendly. There are also lots of accommodation options, either on the hill or down in the town of Avon at the base of the lift network.
The options for beginners are numerous and almost every lift has a top-to- bottom green run option. Perhaps the best beginner zone is actually at the top of the mountain, served by the Cinch and Red Buffalo Express lifts, which means it is snowsure but can also get cold at times. The good news is that the resort return run is a winding green, but downloading the Centennial Express is also an option. Intermediates will then love the long blues over towards Arrowhead and in the Larkspur Bowl.
New lifts take skiers up to McCoy Park. More advanced skiers should head to Birds of Prey and Grouse Mountain chairlifts, where networks of steep blacks sweep down the mountain. These are often incredibly well groomed and it gives you the chance to follow in the footsteps of the World Cup racers. If the snow is good, both Larkspur and Rose Bowl offer some great powder turns, while the Stone Creek Chutes have some seriously steep lines that are certainly not for the feint-hearted.
The purpose-built bases at Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead are home to several smart hotels and numerous condos, offering good variety. If your budget allows, there are some truly enormous houses for rental on the mountain itself – but these are seriously expensive! The valley town of Avon offers further accommodation and is much more affordable. It also has the best facilities, including some good bars and restaurants, as well as the biggest supermarket in the area.
Après ski is generally quite muted, but there are some great Happy Hour offers at the various bars at the foot of the hill. Our top choices would be the Coyote Café at the bottom of the Centennial Express or Bob’s Place down in Avon – the latter is a typically American sports bar.

Updated 04/03
A brief flurry of cold and snowy weather moves in over the PNW and proceeds inland over the rest of the Left Coast: around 10-15cm will progress over the PNW on Wednesday, before arriving over the Tetons and Frontiers into Thursday and Friday. This front will bring with it a steady drop in temperatures, helping top up slopes at upper elevations.
Things have now flipped on its head over in New England, where the phenomenal season for the Ice Coast has given way mild, spring-like conditions. Sun will give way to unsettled conditions into this weekend, with flurries of snowfall giving way to rain as the freezing line soars.
