The slopes offer something for everyone – from the steeps of Delirium Dive and Goat’s Eye Mountain, to the gentle greens of Mt Standish and the high-altitude cruising of Lookout Mtn, the variety is impressive. Along with Lake Louise and Mt Norquay it forms part of the “Ski Big 3”, all of which are covered by the same lift pass and are linked by a bus service – although having a car will certainly help
From the top of the access gondola, there is a great range of terrain to suit all abilities. For beginners, the slopes of Mt. Standish are perfect and there is good progression throughout the area – especially to the sheltered runs served by the Wolverine Quad. Intermediates will love the long runs served by the Continental Divide quad and the new Tee Pee Town Express – the only chair in the resort with covers and heated seats.
Advanced skiers and boarders should head up Goats Eye Mountain, from which a great selection of tough slopes drops from the summit. The jewel in the resort’s crown however is Delirium Dive, a seriously steep off piste zone within the ski area boundary, but special restrictions apply (you must have a buddy and carry avalanche gear) and you must enter through gates.
There’s limited on hill accommodation in the form of the ski-in-ski-out Eagles Nest and Sunshine Mountain Lodge, but we’d thoroughly recommend staying in Banff. It has a fantastic selection of bars, restaurants and things to do – and because it is mostly a summer resort, there is lots of good value accommodation during the winter months.
Up on the hill there is a decent après bar in the form of Trappers, but the action really is back in town. Look out for special daily happy hours, which don’t only cover drinks but food as well.

Updated 24/03
The Coastals get hit with a mega period of cold and snowy weather through the course of this week, with this forecast period bookended by around 30cm over Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by another 20m on the weekend. Things will remain cold throughout, with the freezing line staying around or below 1,000m throughout – enough to boost upper slopes.
BC Interior will remain settled throughout this period, with temperatures floating around freezing at mid-mountain level. A brief flurry of snowfall will see in this forecast period, but barely enough to measure on the snowstake.
Over the Rockies, freezing weather over the Plains brings with it plummeting temperatures, with the freezing line hitting sea level through the middle of this week. Good snowfall will accompany this, bringing around 20cm down.
Finally, the St Lawrence has a mixed week, with temperatures floating around up to freezing and dropping to -13°C at times. A few flurries of snow will fall at times throughout the week, too.
