Metres of fresh, dry powder and mellow terrain makes this an ideal place to learn or simply enjoy powder skiing.

The off piste offers some great progression, starting with the gentle glades above the village centre and ending with the steeper tree runs served by the Gem Lake Express. It is also one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in North America, with true ski-in-ski-out convenience, and is ideally located to be part of a two-centre trip with nearby Silver Star.

On the Slopes

Big White Ski Resort spans an impressive 3,140 hectares, making it Canada’s premier all ski-in, ski-out resort. Each winter, the resort is blanketed with 7.5 meters of dry, British Columbian powder, perfect for glades and tree runs. This abundant snowfall and extensive terrain make Big White one of Canada’s top destinations for off-piste skiing.

Alongside the excellent record during the day, Big White also features Western Canada’s largest night skiing area, 15 hectares of floodlit skiing.

In the Resort

The hub of Big White is its village centre, which also forms part of a green piste run, meaning it’s not only ski to door, but is also ski to après, the supermarket and the rental shop – there is true convenience at this resort.

Alternative accommodation is available down at Happy Valley Lodge, which is linked to the main village by a gondola, or in the condo blocks at Snow Pine Estates.
There is a good deal to do away from the slopes at Big White, including 14km of cross country trails that are groomed daily, as well as a network of marked snowshoeing paths. The resort is also home to a tubing hill and an ice rink.

Getting to Big White

The small airport at Kelowna is only an hour away from Big White and connected via a shuttle transfer to the resort. Kelowna Airport is accessible via both Calgary and Vancouver, and is served by most major Canadian airlines. Big White does sit firmly in road trip territory, however, with Vancouver around 5hrs away by road – add in Whistler and nearby Silver Star and you have a west Canadian roadtrip!

The Coastals get hit with a mega period of cold and snowy weather through the course of this week, with this forecast period bookended by around 30cm over Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by another 20m on the weekend. Things will remain cold throughout, with the freezing line staying around or below 1,000m throughout – enough to boost upper slopes.

BC Interior will remain settled throughout this period, with temperatures floating around freezing at mid-mountain level. A brief flurry of snowfall will see in this forecast period, but barely enough to measure on the snowstake.

Over the Rockies, freezing weather over the Plains brings with it plummeting temperatures, with the freezing line hitting sea level through the middle of this week. Good snowfall will accompany this, bringing around 20cm down.

Finally, the St Lawrence has a mixed week, with temperatures floating around up to freezing and dropping to -13°C at times. A few flurries of snow will fall at times throughout the week, too.
