Colfosco is located in the heart of the 26km Sella Ronda circuit and is part of Europe's largest ski area, Dolomiti Superski,
which has 1200km of pistes. The resort is excellently suited to beginners with a range of excellent nursery slopes and there is excellent progression opportunities on to some gentle, wide blues. The resort really comes into its own for intermediates with a large proportion of the local runs being long, gentle blues. More challenging intermediate terrain can be found in Selva and Arabba. There is not much terrain for advanced skiers in Colfosco itself but the Dolomiti Superski area has a vast range of suitable terrain – be careful when going off piste as off piste skiing is prohibited in a number of areas. Head to La Villa to tackle the famous Gran Risa World Cup run.
It has a fairly compact centre with a sprawl of large hotels along the road towards Passo Gardena and Selva. It’s connected to Corvara by a horizontal chairlift.In the opposite direction, a gondola goes to Passo Gardena.
Colfosco is a quiet, family-orientated resort. Most of the accommodation is in hotels which offer spa facilities and swimming pools to keep both adults and children entertained in the evenings. The quickest way to get to the resort is by flying to Innsbruck before taking a two and a half hour transfer to Colfosco.

Italy will barely benefit from the Nordstau conditions dominating through the middle of this week across the rest of the Alps, sitting as it does on the wrong side (for perhaps the first time this season) of the Main Alpine Ridge. It will not be without cold and snow, however, as the same cold conditions do make it over the Alps; in msot palces the freezing line drops from above 2,000m early this week to seas level by close of play on Thursday.
A few flurries will make it through; the best of this will be on higher ground closer to the ridge, with around 20cm expected down at Cervinia over the course of Wednesday and Thursday. This will be reduced to a few flurries in the Via Lattea or over the Dolomites.
A brief burst of sunshine follows for many areas, before the last few tails of cloud bring with them some more snow into the new week; it remains too early to tell exactly when and where this will fall, and how much, but the southwest seems to be getting the best of it.
