Falls Creek

Falls Creek is an Alpine-style modern family resort, five hours from Melbourne, near Mt Hotham. It is the largest ski area in Victoria and is well suited to intermediates.

Falls Creek has 11 lifts, providing access to 92km of pistes. 17% of the slopes are geared towards beginners.

These slopes are spread across two areas – Wombat’s Ramble is the area to head to on days with poor visibility. Sun Valley is home to most of the intermediate runs with 60% of the runs in the area being blues. The on piste opportunities for advanced skiers are limited but the trickiest runs can be found at the top of the International and Summit chairs. Advanced skiers should head to Mt McKay for some challenging off piste.

Falls Creek village has accommodation for everyone, ranging from budget options to luxury hotels. The resort is a five hour drive from Melbourne. For those driving, chains are required to be carried, and a steep park entry fee needs to be paid. The village roads are closed during winter, so access to most Falls Creek accommodation is via a slow and costly over-snow transport service.
