The resort is located in the Low Tatras mountain range and until relatively recently was unheard of outside of Slovakia.
However, the aforementioned investment has taken Jasna to another level. It now boasts almost 50km of slopes, a lift system to rival any in the Alps and is home to some fantastic freeride terrain. Off the slopes, the accommodation has improved markedly, as has the food, whilst still being incredibly affordable – indeed this is one the best value resorts out there.

On the Slopes
For beginners there is a great learning zone at Biela Pút and from here there is good progression on to longer, gentle blues such as 13 or 10.
Intermediates will enjoy the blues and reds above the resort and also the longer descents down to Krupová on the other side of Chopok – which drop almost 1000m. Thanks to the snowmaking system, snow reliability is generally good.
For more advanced skiers and snowboarders, the steep blacks above the village are worth heading to for some fast groomers, as are the longer runs down to Kosodrevina from Chopok.
The real draw however is the freeride terrain – there are 12 such areas marked on the piste map, dropping down either side of the ridge between Chopok and Derese. In good snow these are a blast and will track out much more slowly than they would at a major alpine resort.
In the Resort
Accommodation has improved along with the rest of the resort facilities, but the great value has been retained. A range of hotels – from family run inns to luxury spa resorts – are located along the slopes, making most ski-in-ski-out.
Après ski and nightlife has also improved at Jasna with the addition of the Happy End bar at the foot of the slopes – beer prices are cheap and in the sunshine this is a great place to be.
There are around 15 restaurants and mountain huts serving everything from typical Slovakian specialities to more typical ski resort fare. One highlight is the Von Roll Restaurant at the Luková mountain station at 1670m, with its small wine cellar. For ‘hut cuisine’ try Klobúk on slope 13 Biela Pút: you get an open fire and good, home style cooking.

For most of Eastern Europe and the Balkans, mild and fine, dry and bright conditions will dominate across this week and into the weekend. Sun, sun and more sun will be the theme of the week, with very little cloud to get in the way!
Further south, conditions will be a little cooler and unsettled, with a few flurries of snowfall moving through the region – although barely enough to register on the snow stake. Temperatures will remain much closer to freezing at mid-mountain level in the region.
