Although Finnish Lapland may seem remote, the small airport of Kittilä is only fifteen minutes away, making this one of the quickest transfers to any ski resort.

Once in Levi, you’ll have access to just under 40km of slopes, which are as snowsure as they come – it is no wonder the ski World Cup has returned here in November year on year. Floodlights also ensure you can ski throughout the day and night even in the depths of winter. But it is probably the off slope activities that make Levi such a special place. With everything from snowmobiling to ice fishing on offer, there’s more than enough to keep even the busiest families happy.

On the Slopes

The ski terrain is roughly split into four sectors, fanning out from the ski area’s summit. Immediately above the resort are the excellent beginner slopes and the front pistes, served by a fast 6-pack chair. Beyond this lies the toughest sector that is home to the Levi Black race piste, used each winter by the world’s finest slalom racers – easier routes down are available and this is a great place to head to on a cold day as the return lift is a gondola.

The two remaining areas are home to the best cruising terrain on the mountain.

Two longer drags serve a network of reds that make up the northeast pistes, whilst a fast six-seater and numerous drags give access to a whole host of blues on the southern side of the hill.

In the Resort

The majority of the accommodation is located right at the foot of the northern slopes, right next to the beginner zone – making this the ideal family destination. Family friendly hotels and apartments are clustered around the centre, making for a nice but quiet atmosphere in town. This is also where the majority of the restaurants and bars are located, so whilst there are other parts of the resort to base yourself in, for maximum convenience stay in the centre (you definitely won’t need a car).

Off the slopes, Levi is up there with the world’s best when it comes to winter activities. Of course around Christmas there is the opportunity to visit Santa, but throughout the winter, the list of things to do is endless. We’d recommend dogsledding and snowmobiling to explore as much of the stunning surrounding area as possible, ice fishing for the tranquillity and cross country skiing if you’re feeling a little more activity. And of course if you’re lucky you’ll see the Northern Lights.

Mild conditions and a mix of sun and cloud will dominate across central and southern areas over the course of this week and into the weekend, with the occasional flurry of snowfall (albeit not enough to measure on the snowstake).

Further north, cooler and more unsettled conditions will bring snowfall to many areas, patchy over Lapland but some serious totals coming for the North Atlantic seawall – about a foot of snowfall can be found across the region throughout this forecast period, peaking over the weekend, as temperatures remain the right side of freezing throughout.
