Despite the relatively low altitude, a vast snowmaking system ensures reliable conditions throughout the winter, just keep an eye out for slushier patches come spring. The resort itself is bustling, with lots of good shops, lively bars and excellent restaurants, all set in a pretty wooded valley and surrounded by breathtaking Dolomite scenery.
The 150km of slopes suit beginners and intermediates best. For absolute beginners there is a good area on the edge of the village, from which point progression on to longer blues is excellent – in fact there are few resorts with such a good selection of long blue runs. Intermediates then have the pick of the slopes, stretching all the way to Folgarida to the north and Pinzolo to the south. A further great addition for 2019/20 for intermediates is that the Nube d’Oro 2-seat fixed grip chairlift has been replaced by a new 6 seater with a significantly increased hourly capacity of 2800 people – this will take skiers from the top of the blue Nube d’Argento-Genderme run and has enabled the creation of a new ski run behind Malga Montagnoli.
For a Dolomite resort, the Madonna ski area has more tough terrain than average – 22% of the pistes are rated black. The best are on Monte Spinale, but there are also good challenges towards Marilleva. Off piste is generally limited, both by local rules and relatively sparse natural snowfall.
Madonna di Campiglio is mainly built in a traditional Alpine style and has a nice, car-free centre as the village is bypassed by through-traffic. Near the centre is a small park and a lake which is used for skating and there are some good cross country trails in the valley. The town does spread out quite a bit however, so some accommodation is a decent walk from the lifts.
There are some lively spots for après, especially at the foot of Monte Spinale and at Grostè. Food throughout the resort is also usually a highlight, both on the slopes and back in town.
Verona is the nearest airport, with the transfer taking around two hours. Venice and Bergamo are other options – the transfer from both takes around three hours.
pre-opening: 22nd November, 2025
The season is expected to run through 26th April, 2026
Updated for 2025/26

With a clear sky above, the mountain was asking for a foray to the Passo Groste, while another group headed to Pinzolo. After meeting our newest member, who was traversing the area to join from Folgarida, we headed up and enjoyed the sunny pistes repeating 60 blue and 61 red with the latter’s rollers providing maximum fun. It was busy, although the queue for the chair was manageable. The off piste there is largely skied out and with limited coverage.
We worked our way across to Spinale taking in the 74 black and 73 red to come back up to the top of the gondola for lunch at Chalet Spinale. The black 70 Direttissima was our next target and provided a lot of entertainment, with the famous 70% Schumacher Streif giving us pause for thought (only for a moment!).
After another cycle of Spinale Gondola, taking in black 75 and red 77, we took Fortini back to the other side and particularly enjoyed Black 57 back to Pradolago which had softened slightly in the sun.
-7/-3 degrees, feeling chilly at altitude, with zero wind and a blue sky.

Updated 30/12
Following a great weekend for the Italian Alps, the New Year dawns fine, dry and bright across the region thanks to high pressure. This moves away as the week continues, with cold and more unsettled weather eventually moving in.
The southwest will see around 15cm of snow fall in steady flurries over Friday, Saturday and Sunday; this will grow to a foot in the northwestern Italian Alps. A slower start in the Dolomites will see at least 20cm down on Sunday with more predicted outside this forecast period into the new week.
The freezing line will remain around 2,000m, dropping to 1,500m in places, before dropping off a cliff on Monday morning ensuring this snowfall – and the snow following into the new week – hits all elevations and remains there.
We are pleased to confirm a Rep in Madonna di Campiglio for the 2025/26 season! Please check out details below.

Having been lucky enough to ski from childhood, I’ve always loved spending time in the mountains, on and off the slopes. If you board, I can happily join you, although they say I’m not quite as bad on skis. I recently got into touring which has been a revelation.
I’m eternally grateful for being able to experience the mountains in the way that we do, and look forward to meeting like minded people every season for fun and snowy adventures.
I enjoy every aspect and style of downhill skiing - from cruisey blues through thigh-burning reds and jaw-dropping blacks to heart-pumping moguls and waist-burying powder (when available). But, more than anything else, skiing is for me a social sport so there is nothing I like more than making new friends and enjoying convivial company while finding new places to ski and new routes to travel between picturesque chocolate stops and wonderful mountain restaurants. This year I am looking forward to skiing some new resorts, meeting more friends and helping Ski Club members experience my favourite activities. When I am not dreaming about, or planning, my next ski trip I live in the quiet Hampshire downlands, keeping fit for next season swimming, cycling, walking and playing the occasional game of tennis.
I started skiing late but there was no turning back and I haven't missed a year since then until 2021. No idea what happened then! It all began in Austria before trying the big French resorts and several in North America. Soldeu in Grandvalira has become a big favourite with its huge ski area centred on this sociable little village. Being part of the Rep Service provides a great chance for a few extra weeks on the snow and an opportunity to meet like minded people!
I’ve been repping for the Ski Club GB since 2008, travelling with them to many destinations around Europe and Canada. I’ve been a keen cyclist most of my life which I find to be great preparation for a ski season. This season I’m looking forward to hopefully skiing the best conditions in Tignes and Cortina training and skiing with friends.
With the Ski Club I’m excited about returning to rep on two Freshtracks holidays, the first in Sun Peaks, British Columbia Canada and then Arosa in Switzerland. Both resorts have a unique charm about them with Arosa linking into the great resort of Lenzerheide. For me, skiing is all about the love of the mountains, the people you meet and the experiences you share along the way. Looking forward to a safe and wonderful season!
Now semi-retired I am looking forward to my Summer in the mountains as a mountain leader. Winter 2023 holds the promise of skiing in Zermatt and Davos in addition to Cervinia and the beautiful Dolomites. I look forward to meeting some old friends and to forging new friendships through SCGB!
