Samoëns is one of France’s most family friendly ski resorts and has great access into the 265km of linked slopes that form the Grand Massif ski area.

Samoëns is an attractive old village that makes for a great base from which to explore the Grand Massif and the linked slopes with Les_Carroz, Morillon and Flaine.

The access gondola is slightly out of town, but it provides access to the heart of the slopes as well as the best beginner zone in the resort. The local slopes are mostly long and tree-lined, so are fantastic in bad weather conditions, but if the sun is shining, be sure to make the most of your Grand Massif pass and head to the high bowl above Flaine or the powder skiing in the Combe de Gers.

Pros and cons

Excellent tree-lined slopes immediately above the resort
Pretty village with good accommodation options
Some great views from the summits

Access lift just outside town and you must download it at the end of the day
Quiet resort on the whole with limited nightlife
Its easy access from Geneva means it can be busy at weekends

Spring conditions dominate across the French Alps, with high pressure bringing fine, dry and bright conditions throughout this week. Freezing overnight temperatures give way to warmth int he midday sun, as the freezing line yo-yos from 500m to 2,000m in a typical spring freeze-thaw.

This oscillation will slowly flatten over the course of this week as cloud moves into the region, settling on a pivot around 1,000m. This will bring with it a few flurries of snow into the weekend, with a useful 5cm falling across upper slopes.

Cloud begins to give way to this spring freeze-thaw sunshine again as the new week begins.
