Weekly programme, social hour, and contact details
Most pistes are suited to intermediate skiers, who have an almost limitless choice of terrain across the ski area – which includes Sestriere, Sansicario, Claviere, Cesana_Torinese and Montgenèvre. This is also a great resort for bad weather as a large proportion of the slopes are within the trees but crucially in this relatively dry corner of the Alps, most of these are now equipped with snowmaking.
The resort is centred on a cobbled, car-free zone in keeping with the traditional buildings of the region. From this, larger hotels and chalets spread out across the hillside so check where you want to be based if walking in ski boots to the lifts in the morning isn’t your thing. At night the centre is lively, with bars filling up quickly and staying full into the small hours.
As mentioned, the beginner slopes are far from ideal but there is a small area in the resort itself. Off the slopes there is not a great deal to do for families and the busy town centre may prove to be a bit noisy if you have children – try and stay a little bit further out if this is the case.
Sauze offers some of the best après in Italy but it doesn’t quite rival the party towns in France or Austria. That being said happy hours are very popular and several places will also serve up free antipasti with your drinks. Some recommendations include Grotta, Scacco Matto and Max’s Café – home to a four hour happy hour. Later on, the late night bars get going and don’t be surprised if you end up heading to the nightclub underneath Mira’s.
Sauze d’Oulx is well connected to nearby Turin, with a brand new motorway installed along the length of the Val de Susa in time for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, which saw some events staged in Via Lattea. As a result, transfer times can be as little as 40 minutes from Turin Airport. Regular train services run from Turin & Turin Airport along the valley, stopping at Oulx – from here, regular buses and, from March 2024, the dedicated Via Lattea Link service, will transport you from the valley floor to the resort.
Via Lattea has offered discounts on lift passes in previous years for arriving in the resort by train, although this promotion has not been confirmed as running for the 2024/25 – keep an eye on the Via Lattea website for more details. Since late 2023, the railway line between Italy and France via Modane and Grenoble has been shut owing to a landslide near Modane. As a result, international TGV and Frecchiarossa services have been unable to serve the Via Lattea, and will continue to do so until “at least early 2025”. It is recommend to plan your travel carefully to avoid this disruption.

The weather turned much colder overnight and cloud blanketed the sun this morning. The pistes were pristine corduroy but the lower temperatures meant that skiing resulted in the fillings being rattled occasionally. To begin with we stayed low, where the snow was a little softer and skiing the tree linedbruns around Bourget gave better definition to the ground. We took time to have a coffee at Marmotta as the Triplex was running for the weekend making access easier. After coffee we had avquick run down to Jouvenceaux mid station, then we made our way to the Sansicario area to ski the black 21 which had become one of our favourites. We skied Sansicario for a while as the snow softened and then gradually made our way back across to Clot Bourget for lunch (lovely pizzas which are big enough to share). After lunch, a very short afternoon as it’s the end of Rep’s season here in Sauze so yours truly had packing & cleaning to do.
Colder temperatures left the pistes a little crunchy first thing but they softened as the morning went on. Cloud blanketed the sun first thing and there were some (half hearted) attempts at snow flurries.
The pistes were busier today with weekenders and some school parties arriving. There were still barely any queues.

Updated 30/12
Following a great weekend for the Italian Alps, the New Year dawns fine, dry and bright across the region thanks to high pressure. This moves away as the week continues, with cold and more unsettled weather eventually moving in.
The southwest will see around 15cm of snow fall in steady flurries over Friday, Saturday and Sunday; this will grow to a foot in the northwestern Italian Alps. A slower start in the Dolomites will see at least 20cm down on Sunday with more predicted outside this forecast period into the new week.
The freezing line will remain around 2,000m, dropping to 1,500m in places, before dropping off a cliff on Monday morning ensuring this snowfall – and the snow following into the new week – hits all elevations and remains there.
Meet your Rep using the details below, or reach out to them using the contact number or via the Ski Club App.
Your Ski Club Reps are in resort for one reason only; to help you discover better skiing. They are your personal resort gurus, with years of experience skiing here and around the world, who will bring you and your fellow Members together to conquer the mountain! Stay up to date with everything in resort, find the best spots for an après beer, and ski to your heart’s content.
Our Reps will be in resort between 4 January and 28 March 2026, skiing six days a week – Reps’ day off/changeover day is Sunday in this resort. I am a very enthusiastic skier. I love to share the joy of skiing with like minded people. Over the years I have been lucky enough to have represented the club on many holidays and made many enduring friendships. Of all the resorts I have visited on behalf of the club Sauze d'Oulx is my favourite , it has a wide variety of terrain, wide open slopes, tree line pistes, secrete trails, terrific tree skiing and easily accessible of piste, as well as connections to the whole of the Milky way. Sauze has some fantastic mountain hostelries really friendly resort bars and restaurants. I look making lots of new friends and renewing old acquaintances during my repping slot in January.
Although I came to skiing quite late in life, I've spent the last 20 years (and a commensurate amount of cash and energy!) trying hard to make up for missed opportunities and the repping service allows me the chance to ski with like minded individuals and to explore new resorts and territories and to meet fellow alpine enthusiasts. I'm equally happy searching out new tracks in powder as carving rails on piste. If only I could ski them as well as I imagine myself to be doing so.
My introduction to skiing came relatively late in life in the form of a two-week Nordic skiing training package in Norway whilst at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Despite best efforts to limit fun, we were granted two days of Alpine skiing at Lillehammer…. and my eyes were opened. Assigned for six years to Germany, I learnt to race with 1 (UK) Armd Division in Les Contamines. There were also ample opportunities to head away to Austria for long weekends with my fellow subalterns. We became regulars at the Stubai and masters at catching the overnight train from St Anton to Hannover to arrive back in time for work on Monday morning by the skin of our teeth.
I still ski with the same gang of four from 25 years ago, albeit now with families in tow – our numbers have quadrupled. Our enthusiasm for skiing remains undimmed, although admittedly, the mileage covered, and volumes of raclette and beer consumed has reduced. I enjoy cruisy blues and off-piste in equal measure. I’m also partial to an unhurried lunch, but above all, I enjoy discovering new places, finding mountain solace and having fun skiing with interesting groups of people.
I have been skiing since the age of 14 or was it 12? So long ago I can't remember! Never happier than when in the mountains with good company, some of my best memories and many of my friends have come through skiing.
For me, giving something back to the sport I have had so much enjoyment from is really important and through 2015 / 16 I was privileged to coach a young woman to success in the Special Olympics in Serre Chevalier. My enthusiasm for skiing is only surpassed by my sense of humour and I look forward to sharing bad jokes, lots of laughs and great times in the mountains with Ski Club members.
Meeting new people, making new friends, having great experiences in the outdoors - What could be better?
Please call me Bob.
I was 45 when I first strapped a pair of planks to my feet but I was totally hooked from that first moment (in Les Deux Alpes) and (until Covid) there's never been a winter, since, without at least one ski trip. I've skied in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Canada and, since 2008, I've been a Ski Club Rep, Leader, Ambassador and Rep again. I've skied with hundreds of Ski Club Members in the intervening years representing the Club in France, Italy, Switzerland and Canada.
My first love is and has always been skiing. My love affair started when I was a young student and I cut my teeth on the mountains of Scotland. I have been fortunate to ski in many European resorts over the years as well as America, Canada and Japan. I like nothing better than cruising the piste to skiing steep and deep, and now dipping my feet into some ski touring too! From a fair-weather skier to an all-weather skier (and sometimes snowboarder too) I love it all. A bad day on the slopes is better than a good day at the office!!   I really look forward to meeting you and sharing my joy of skiing with you, as well as the coffee & cake stops
