Silvretta Montafon offers expansive backcountry opportunities so it was the perfect base for our brand new trip. There are many marked routes and off piste runs plus the resort acts as a great departure point for some exhilarating touring.
This trip is focussed on ski day touring and is perfect for those just starting out; and those that have had a little previous touring experience.
The Silvretta Montafon ski area is located in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, on the west of the Silvretta mountain range. To the east, you'll find the more famous ski areas of Ischgl and Galtür. The area comprises of several villages including Schruns, St Gallenkirch, Gaschurn and Gargellen, which are linked by 140km of pistes. There is a good variety of terrain and a number of excellent mountain restaurants offering good value Austrian specialities.
The 40km-long Montafon valley contains eleven resorts and four main lift systems. The biggest is the Nova area (linking Gaschurn and St Gallenkirch) and this is now linked to the Hochjoch area and Schruns. Gargellen and Golm are smaller ski areas in the valley.
