An old town in the broad Haslital valley, a good outing from the nearby Jungfrau resorts or Interlaken and 90 minutes' drive from Zürich or Bern. High-speed lifts take you into the slopes, which are on a broad, sunny mountainside spread across two main sectors. The area is particularly suitable for beginners and confident intermediates - experts will find little to challenge them and early intermediates will find a lack of blue runs. The area is popular with boarders but there are some flat sections. There's a good choice of mountain restaurants, and the resort is great for families with kids' snow gardens, special restaurants and fun areas. There's a choice of hotels and plenty of apartments; most of the restaurants are hotel-based. Après-ski is lively up the mountain but quiet and relaxed in town later on. There's plenty to do off the slopes - including visiting the Sherlock Holmes museum, of course.
