Skiing Today

The 'March-in-January' weather has come to an end, at least temporarily, and today we had to endure lower temperatures and only partial sunlight ... there were clouds in the sky though sadly not enough to bring snow. We spent the morning cruising the pistes of Cervinia and Valtournenche but we headed back to Zermatt before lunch as it looked as if the weather was closing in and no one wanted to get stuck in Cervinia particularly on a Friday night. On the descent to Furgg we almost had flat light which was a shock to the system after 13 days of skiing in sunlight! However by mid-afternoon the clouds had dispersed and we could take the brakes off again. We finished the day with a really enjoyable descent of the completed deserted National piste. I had been expecting to ski it in a series of power slides but they must have been running the snow cannons all night because it was grippy from top to bottom.

Snow overview for Switzerland

17 January 2020

Swiss slopes are due a mixed bag of sunshine and snow showers over the weekend with temperatures dropping.

The Jungfrau area will be sunny today with some cloud in Mürren and Grindelwald but otherwise blue skies and good visibility.

Verbier will also enjoy some sun today with temperatures around 1 degree and cloud due over the weekend.

It’s a similar story in Saas-Fee too with sunny skies but snow is predicted to fall this evening and cloudy conditions expected for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures will also drop to -9 so wrap up warm.

Zermatt is expecting a sunny day but snow to start falling this afternoon, due to continue until tomorrow morning. Conditions look clear and sunny tomorrow with cloudy skies expected on Sunday.
