It’s clear that while record-breaking snow coverage late in the season captured the headlines, there were plenty of other unforgettable moments that sparked excitement, conversation, and celebration across the media. Here are my top 10 moments from across this season!
In April 2025, the Alps experienced a record breaking late-season snowfall, with up to two metres of snow falling within 36 hours in some areas. Whilst this provided some epic conditions for the closing of the season, it also caused widespread disruption, including road closures, collapsed power lines and avalanche threats across many resorts. The video linked shows the amount of snowfall in Verbier with over a foot of fresh snow in less than 24 hours!
Mikaela Shiffrin made history by winning her 100th Alpine Skiing World Cup race with a slalom victory in Sestriere, Italy. The 29-year-old American is the first skier, male or female, to reach this milestone.
Shiffrin returned to competition in January after a two month injury layoff, during which she recovered from a painful stomach injury sustained in a crash while leading a race in Killington, USA. Despite the setback, she came back strongly, also securing a record-equalling 15th World Championship medal in Saalbach earlier this month. She expressed deep emotion after her historic win, emphasising the long, challenging journey to this point. She described her goal as always striving to improve, saying, โTry to be better tomorrow than I was today.โ A good life motto to keep!
โTop scary Moments in Alpine Skiing Seasonโ showcases the most intense and dramatic moments from the 2024/25 Alpine Skiing races, showcasing the athletesโ courage, skill and resilience. The video includes Gamel Seigneurโs unbelievable mid-race flip recovery in Kvitfjell as well as Paula Moltzanโs somersault during a slalom run in Courchevel, escaping injury. These moments showcase and remind us just how unpredictable and thrilling the world of alpine skiing truly is!
As seen in the video the routine is complete with high kicks and pompoms- while wearing ski boots, at the 2025 Intermountain Health Freestyle International Ski World Cup in Utah. This video had over 70 thousand likes showcasing a very famous routine, itโs a sight you donโt and wonโt often witness at snow sports events, bringing a fun and light-hearted twist to the competition!
As seen in the video, Swiss freeskier Fabian Bรถsch has created an innovative project, Circus Bรถsch. Inspired by his gym training with bouncy balls, he envisioned incorporating circus elements into skiing, leading to this unique spectacle. With the support of Helvepark, a Swiss company specialising in park design, he transformed the sloped of the Schilthorn Mountain into a circus themed terrain park, featuring trapeze swings, slacklines, inverted rails and even more! Despite a few challenges along the way, Bรถschโs dedication resulted in a breathtaking performance which went viral worldwide!
At just 19 years old, Japanese snowboarder Hiroto Ogiwara made history at the 2025 X Games in Aspen by landing the first ever 2340-degree spin in the competition. This groundbreaking trick, involving six and a half rotations, earned him a gold medal and widespread acclaim. Ski ballet, a once Olympic event that disappeared after the 1988 Winter Games, has made a surprising resurgence on social media. This video of creator @aline.annemarie captivated audiences with an impressive snow dance on skis that quickly went viral gaining over 114,000 likes and nearly 1 million views. The video shows Alineโs careful skills whilst also showcasing the simple joy of embracing the moment. Whilst not a traditional ski ballet performance, her fluid, graceful movements in the snow capture the same free-spirited energy that defined the sport. ย This resurgence is so captivating as it brings together the combination of athleticism and artistry that draws in both traditional sports fans and casual viewers.
Noah Dines broke the internet and the record books for the most human-powered vertical feet skied in a calendar year. Skiing 3,590,097 vertical feet between January and December 2024, he surpassed the previous record of 2.5 million feet set in 2016. What made this feat even more remarkable was his dedication to the sport and event ascent was achieved without the aid of chairlifts, relying solely on his own strength and determination. Dineโs final ascent, streamed live on Instagram, had thousands of viewers cheering him on virtually as he crossed the 3.5 million foot threshold. His record is a testament to grit, perseverance and an amazing spirit of adventure.
In January 2025, Candide Thovex released a new video titled “Recovery Time in Tignes,โ filmed by Aziz Benkrinch. The footage showcases Thovexโs unparalleled skill and creativity on the slopes, executing complex manoeuvres with precision and style. The video gained significant attention online, gaining 209k views and over 5k likes, with fans and fellow athletes praising Thovexโs continued excellence in the sport.
Alongside this, he had a new ski slope named after him in La Clusaz, in recognition of his incredible ski ability, the resort where he began his skiing journey. He stated, โI learned to ski at Balme, and it taught me everything. This mountain shaped my skiing. I am hounoured to see part of Balme bear my name, and I want to thank La Clusaz for this recognition.โ
The โCandide Thovex” run is now a must-ski for enthusiasts seeking an exhilarating challenge.
Mia Brookes, the 18 year old, who in 2023 became the youngest world champion in snowboard history at the age of 16, secured her first Crystal Globe title in last years event solidifying her place among the sportโs elite. The Crystal Globe is awarded to the competitor with the most points accumulated throughout the season, and despite sitting out the final competition in Aspen, Brookeโs two wins earlier in the season gave her a commanding lead. Finishing the season tied with Japanโs Mari Fukada, Brookeโs earlier victories sealed the title in her favour. Brookeโs admitted she hadnโt expected to win, but was thrilled with the outcome after such a hard-fought season. With her impressive track record, Brookeโs is undoubtedly one of the most exciting talents to watch in the world of snowboarding for years to come!
