The fourth largest resort on the east coast, and the third largest in Vermont, this year-round resort is consistently ranked among the top family destinations in the USA.
Smugglers Notch is a French-style purpose-built family resort with sympathetic instructors, comprehensive childcare, child-friendly layout and long, quiet, easy runs. There are varied and satisfying slopes, spread over three hills, with 78 trails served by six lifts, and a worthwhile vertical of 800m. It's a great area for beginners, but mileage-hungry intermediates should go elsewhere. Snowboarding is encouraged, and there are three impressive terrain parks and an Olympic-size super-pipe. There is also a great range of expert terrain, primarily on the main summit - Madonna Mountain, with plenty of narrow bumps and tightly packed tree lined runs, including the East Coast's only triple black diamond graded piste.
