Deer Valley still limits its ticket sales every day, meaning you'll rarely be in a lift queue.

You are likely – even on the busiest weekends – to ski deserted slopes as a result, too. The plentiful Utah powder stays untracked here for longer and the resort is famed for the quality of its grooming. There’s everything from gentle greens to genuine double diamond blacks here, plus with many of the guests sticking firmly to the pistes, the off piste opportunities here are very good.

Note that Deer Valley is one of the last resorts that is still ski only; snowboarding is not permitted. Mono skiing and telemark equipment is permitted on the hill, as is adaptive snowsports equipment although this must be done in accordance with the resort’s “ski only” policy. There are several bases to choose from, all of which offer high-end accommodation, plus there’s the option to stay in Park City. It is just down the road and is much livelier, with a good choice of bars and restaurants. Deer Valley’s location lends itself perfectly to tying a stay in with a multi-resort trip – visit other resorts such as Park City, Alta and Snowbird – plus access from Salt Lake City airport is incredibly easy.

Generally mild conditions are in store for much of the US Left Coast this week, in our penultimate snow overview of the winter. Bouts of precipitation will move across the whole area, but this will fall as patches of rain rather than snow – that being said, a few flocons can be expected down, most notably in the PNW where around 5cm will open the weekend.

On the Ice Coast, warm temperatures dominate, well into double digits for much of this week. Lots of rain is expected through this coming weekend, before temperatures are expected to fall again.
