Forecast today: Light rain
But its not just about the lift system and the pistes, the two towns are vibrant but attractive places. Lively après ski bars make this a popular party resort, but don’t let this put you off as there are a lot of quieter parts and a great selection of good, family-run hotels.
Hinterglemm is home to the area’s best beginner zone, with several drags and magic carpets accessing sunny, gentle slopes. Progression from here on to long, cruisey blues is excellent, with an great selection of well-groomed, wide pistes to choose from across the Skicircus.
Confident intermediates will love the sense of travel that you can gain reaching the far extremes of the region. Head over to Leogang to avoid the crowds on busy days and the long runs down from Schattberg offer up 1000m of vertical and can be delightfully quiet. For more advanced skiers and boarders, the slopes of Fieberbrunn are world-class – indeed they are good enough to be a venue for the Freeride World Tour each winter.
Saalbach and Hinterglemm are separate villages, their centres 4km apart, which have expanded along the floor of their dead-end east-west valley. They haven’t quite merged, but a range of accommodation can be found in between the two. Both resorts, but Saalbach in particular, are noted for their vibrant, après ski and nightlife, with the party starting from 3pm and running till early morning.
Off the slopes, the Saalbach Valley is home to some excellent walking trails and groomed cross country routes. Up on the mountain, there are several tobogganing routes, including a floodlit trail down Reiterkogel.
Salzburg airport is around an hour and a half away from Saalbach, whilst Innsbruck sits around two and half hours away away.

Updated 10/03
Spring continues across the Austria Alps, as the freezing line remains stubbornly high throughout the region; consistently above 2,000m through the middle of the week, dropping at times no lower than 2000m.
This will change as the week moves towards its conclusion, with he freezing line dropping steadily reaching a nadir at 1,000m into the weekend. Snow will then come in a couple of flurries over the weekend, albeit barely enough to register on the snow stake.
The new week will remain cold, with a mix of sunshine and snowfall coming later in the week.

My first skiing trip was to St Anton at tender age of 22, which was a long time ago now. I caught the bug from the very beginning and I've not missed a season ever since. I just LOVE the mountains and have never had a bad day, just some better than others. This is my twelfth season leading/repping for the club, which has enabled to ski some great resorts where I’ve had some truly memorable moments and met some fantastic people along the journey. My favourite resort is Revelstoke in British Columbia with its legendary powder where my youngest daughter lived for six years and closely followed by Red Mountain where she lives now! Looking forward to starting the 25/26 season repping in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, then onto Bormio and back to Canada in March
A member of Ski Club in the 1984 and I did the Leaders course in 1998. I love extending peoples skiing so they make the most of the mountain and their vacation. Both on / off piste and in bars. I have enjoyed repping in Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland. In particular Wengen, Davos, Sass Fee, Zell am Zee, Mayrhofen, Les Arcs, Sun Peaks Resort, Alpe d'Huez, Tignes, Cervina, Champoluc. The only racing I do is in the Murren Inferno between 9km and 15km. I now cycle about 30- 75 miles at the weekend to keep my legs fit for skiing. Being out doors is fantastic. My goals are to cycle the Cheshire ring (the hard bit is avoiding the pubs) and Trans Pennine Trail. In the Mountains I am planning to walk / climb the East ridge of the Eiger in Wengen in the summer. Also A circular hut to hut tour in Sexten Dolomites, Italy most spectacular scenery. Any 3- 7 day ski touring trips I can fit in the Spring.
