With a great location at the heart of the SkiWelt, Scheffau makes for a good base to explore Austria's second biggest ski area.

Scheffau's location in between Söll and Ellmau places it right in the heart of the SkiWelt ski area, giving skiers and boarders prime access to the vast network of linked slopes.

Access comes from Blaiken, a short bus ride away from the main village, via two gondolas to Brandstadl. From here, the SkiWelt’s impressive 284km of slopes hops from valley to valley and over ridgelines, all served by one of the world’s best lift systems. Snow reliability can be an issue on the resort runs in particular, but incredible investment in snowmaking has definitely helped in recent years.

The village itself is located 1km to the north of the ski lifts, meaning each morning you’ll need to walk for 20 minutes, drive or catch the ski bus down to the lifts. Alternatively, a couple of hotels can be found by the gondolas.

Scheffau itself is attractive however, with an old centre and some decent dining options, but this isn’t a resort renowned for its lively bar scene – head to nearby Söll instead. Both Innsbruck and Salzburg lie a little over an hour’s drive away from Scheffau.

Austria sees some good and much-needed snowfall over the course of this weekend and into the new week. Temperatures remain cold throughout, as the freezing line hovers around 1,500m across the region, occassionally spiking to just above 2,000m. A few flurries of snowfall over the weekend will be matched with a few threats of sunshine, before the taps turn on into the new week.

Eastern and Southeastern areas will see around a foot of snowfall over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, focused on Saturday when most of this will fall. Western areas will see much needed consistent snowfall, with just over a foot expected down in consistent waves from Sunday until Tuesday, with more snowfall expected later in the week.
