An impressive lift system, dominated by fast 8-seater chairlifts and modern gondolas, serves a compact network of well-groomed slopes, most of which are also covered by snow machines.
The gentle blues at Loferer Alm served by the Family Express are some of the best for learning anywhere in Austria, with great progression on to the longer blues possible. There are also some sterner challenges for more advanced skiers and riders, but this is not really a resort for experts or those looking for extensive off piste.
The village is compact and pretty, with a decent selection of small family-run hotels to choose from. The town is bypassed by the main road (it is in a tunnel) so is nice and quiet, adding to the family-friendly nature of the resort. Lofer’s location near the German border ensures a very quick 45 minutes transfer from Salzburg or the option of a 2 hour drive from Munich.
